Time: 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM
Presenter: Susanne Congress, LCSW

Susanne Congress, LCSW, is a clinical social worker at the Child Mind Institute’s Anxiety Disorders Center, specializing in the treatment of anxiety and trauma-related disorders, including social anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, separation anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). With her extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults, Susanne helps empower families by providing tools and strategies to manage anxiety at home and in social settings. She is bilingual (English/Spanish) and has a passion for working with diverse populations. Susanne uses evidence-based approaches, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure therapy, to ensure that children and their caregivers feel supported in their mental health journey.
Location: Charles Armstrong School, Belmont, CA

Description:
Many children experience anxiety, but it can be difficult for parents to distinguish between common worries and signs of clinical anxiety. This workshop will focus on social anxiety, how anxiety presents itself in school and social settings, and how to separate typical anxiety from a clinical condition. We will explore what parents can do at home to promote their child’s ability to manage their own anxiety, offering practical strategies to support their mental health and well-being. The session will also touch on co-occurring diagnoses, such as depression, and how these conditions can overlap.
Format:
  • 30-minute presentation with engagement from parents, followed by Q&A and open discussion
  • Emphasis on practical tips for managing anxiety at home and understanding when to seek additional help
