Serving the Dyslexia Community Beyond Armstrong
Armstrong believes that all students with dyslexia deserve high quality, effective educational experiences to help them thrive as learners and reach their full potential. Armstrong develops ongoing partnerships with outside organizations to improve the science, educational resources, and pedagogical practices that best serve students with dyslexia. For example we share our expertise, help conduct research and instructional trials, and train outside educators.
The mission of the UCSF Dyslexia Center is to eliminate the debilitating effects of developmental dyslexia while preserving and even enhancing the relative strengths of each individual.
Armstrong began its research partnership with the UCSF Dyslexia Center in 2013 to jointly advance the understanding of the science and best educational methods for teaching students with dyslexia. Today, Armstrong is one of the Dyslexia Center’s premier school research partners. Our main collaboration with the Dyslexia Center is through the Dyslexia Phenotype Project, in which we implement instructional trials using data collected in the project. Substantial cohorts of Armstrong students have participated in cognitive assessments including neurological psychiatric evaluations.
Sarah Fox, Director of Lower School and Research, is leading Armstrong’s translation of this ground-breaking research into teaching practices.

The partnership between Armstrong and the UCSF Dyslexia Center is the foundation of our bench to classroom research. Our shared mission is to develop personalized early identification, effective interventions as well as excellent learning and mental health outcomes for all people with dyslexia and learning differences.
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) is a global leader in Pre K – 12 educational content and services, combining digital innovation and research to make learning more engaging and effective.
Armstrong partners with HMH to improve some of its reading intervention programs using Armstrong classroom data and feedback to benefit all students with dyslexia, beyond Armstrong classrooms.

Wilson Reading System® curricula are part of Armstrong’s literacy program. Armstrong is the only Wilson® Training Partner school in California. Cori Maiden, Wilson®Credentialed Trainer, is the administrator for this partner relationship.
